Tiffany & Co.

From last night... Everytime I stepped back off the sidewalk (5th Avenue) I nearly got hit by a cab. I did lot's of shots with people walking by - but I like this one best. I am going, with the next roll I shoot - to experiment with shooting the tri-x at 800 so I can stop motion better at night.

Dave,
I almost always rate my TriX at 800, even during the daytime.(except for extreme sun) Allows for sharp images when shooting in the street. High shutter speeds and small f-stops. I think Winogrand often shot at 1000 during the daytime.

Paul - and developing it with time / temp. for ASA 800?

After shooting 2000+ rolls of TRI-X, I'm really digging HP5 plus and it's only $2.99 a roll...

Actually, to be honest Dave, I use the same time and temp I use for 400 ASA and get fine results. Ive checked dev. charts and they say no adjustment is needed for 800 ASA. Am I wrong? It seems to work for me. Matt, I just tried the HP5 also and liked the results. And yes, it is cheaper than TriX. May try some more, Im just so used to automatically buying TriX though.

Ugh, I just checked the massive dev chart and I think I AM wrong. According to the chart, I should be at around 15min at 68' as opposed to the 10min at 68' Im now using at 800. Ok. gotta do some testing of my own I guess.
But my film seems to be ok. Just looked at some that's now drying. Could be my old camera's meter is off by a full stop? Tomorrow I'll try a test.
Gonna go check Kodaks dev chart now.

Dave, this is from Kodak's Dev chart:

"Because of these films' exposure latitude, you can underexpose by one stop and use normal processing times. Prints will show a slight loss in shadow detail".

This is what I've been doing, 10min at 68' for 800ASA.
I use Sprint Chemicals.
Still going to do my own test, something I haven't done enough of.
Sorry for the meltdown!

Matt: I'm using the Ilfotec DD-X with Tri-x and loving it (after years with HP5 and HC110).

This is good because things will even out in terms of support of Kodak and Ilford if we keep at it long enough and have many followers. You switch to Ilford for film, and I switch to Kodak. Let's see if we can go on a Quixotic (sp?) mission and buck this slight digital trend that does seem to be popular now. (uh, understatement intended).

Anyway for Tri-X with Ilfotec DD-X, Ilford recommends 8 minutes @ 400 ASA / 68F; and 10 minutes @ 800 ASA / 68F.

Grant - I used Diafine with TMY years ago and loved it. You're the 2nd person to suggest Diafine with Tri-x. Can't wait to give it a try.
