The Home Page

Not sure if anyone likes the homepage changes - blog / store combo. But I like it a lot. Think I'll stick with it at least through the end of the year and see how it goes. Tomorrow is print day. I have two orders to get out.

And if I'm going to stick with doing all this PS sharpening stuff in 16-bit mode I'm going to need a new PC for sure. My friend Eugene keeps sending me specs from Dell, Gateway etc. I'd like to hire him to set up the new system and deal with the headaches but I don't think I'll be able to afford a new setup until the new year.

I'm not prone to depression - but the mini-depression I was going through the last few weeks seems to be fading. I went out and was happy as a lark shooting in Central Park. Felt very creative again. Can't wait to see a couple of shots on the last roll. An empty field with with high-school runners - and wide angle - and I definitely was thinking of the opening shots from - Chariots of Fire... I was actually lying in the grass shooting up and -- well we'll see...

Jeff - yep.

Used the Mamiya 6 for several years. It's not comparable IMHO to 35mm rangefinder because:

1) normal focal length is say 75 or 80mm and lenses are about f4.0 - so for walking around - you aren't going to get the same low-light ability

2) focal length longer so what is hand-holdable is different

3) same problems with longer lenses as with 35mm rangefinder - though they did correct that to some extent with viewfinder in Mamiya7

All that being said. I liked the Mamiya 6 very much. Oh yeah - cost; and less shots per roll and all that.

But not the same experience as shooting with 35mm rangefinder.

Craig: Thanks!

medium format is fab! I love the negatives from my
Rolleiflex... my next camera is either going to be a
Rolleiflex wide or a Mamiya 6. I think I'm closer to
a Mamiya 6, since shooting with the Rolleiflex is pretty
slow -handling wise-.

Medium format just renders so much more detail, it's
unreal. Low light photography is not an issue either -
since grain doesn't show as much as with 35mm.

Problem with the 'flex was focusing in low light,
ever since I have gotten a Beattie screen, that
issue has been resolved...

the sidebar doesn't grab my attention anymore,
might be a good idea to make it dynamic - either
random or latest additions

I've decided to leave the sidebar as is - given the fact that orders have been coming in steadily since I changed the page. But I'll put up some additional thumbs with new things lower down on the page.

(Steadily means one a day).
