Another Stop

Another Stop

In my never ending quest to photograph every subway stop in New York - here's another station. This was on the way out to Coney Island, and I actually got off at about six stations because they looked interesting. I suppose this is a harmless sort of fanaticism.

Come to think about it - I always liked movies about trains. Did you ever see The Train with Burt Lancaster? That's what this shot reminds me of. Another great one, maybe the best film ever made where the New York City Subway was the star: The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3. Final frame for you trivia buffs was what?

In case you care about such things: HP5 with the Hexar Classic.

Final scene was Robert Shaw coughing after speaking to Walter Matthau and giving the game away. Was the last shot of Matthau's face as it finally dawns on him? Great film. Dave you should try 'Raw Meat', set in the London Underground of the 70's. Donald Pleasence's finest hour by far!

I don't think it was Robert Shaw - it was Martin Balsam in the final scene with Matthau, and yes, Martin Balsam sneezes - and there's a closeup freeze frame of Matthau realizing the sneeze means that Balsam was the engineer for the heist.

Raw Meat - will definitely try it. I actually worked on a film with Donald Pleasence when I got out of film school called Alone In the Dark.

When I say worked with, I mean "carried sandbags around" on a film that Donald Pleasence was in.

I vaguely remember Alone In The Dark. Was it set in an asylum with escaping inmates laying siege to the doctor's house?

Being a bit of a horror film fan (to say the least!), Donald Pleasence is the King! I envy you meeting the guy Dave.

Please don't tell me you've met Peter Cushing as well!!!

The premise was that a bunch of lunatics escape from - well a lunatic asylum and terrorize a family.

Jack Palance was also in it, along with Martin Landau and a couple of others.

But no - I never did meet Cushing :)

(I'm listed as 2nd electric). Which is about as low on the crew hierarchy as you can get other than "production assistant."

Jack Palance was the one that amazed me. Powerful guy (he must have been about 65 at the time). I remember him most from Shane.

Wow, another of my idols credited on that movie. The great Tom Savini; now there's a guy who enjoys his work!

I worked on a couple of movies that Tom Savini was on. Great guy.
