Grand Central Interior

untitled

An old '4x5' negative. I know the time will come when people will ask: "negative? what's that?"
It may be here already. And then the long explanation that will end up with something like: "oh, it's like one of my new mega-square cards, dude. i didn't know you had so many pixels back then. that is awesome!"

This is such an absolutely beautiful image through and through.
And, in my opinion, this is why film will always be the far superior to digital. The range and depth of tones, the smoothness of it all. This is why I still shoot film.
A beautiful and wonderful image.

4x5=20 MP. Right?

Bill - there is no clear equivalent but it is MUCH higher than that. In other words when I scan a 35mm neg. I'm scanning at 5400 ppi and frankly that's beyond the grain of a fast film.

But to get an idea of the possibilities with a 4 x 5 inch negative - if you scan it at 2000 ppi you get(2000 x 4 inch) x (2000 x 5) = 8000 pixels x 10,1000 pixels then you are in the 80 megapixel arena. (I think?) And if you scan it higher - and it's color - than watch out - it's gonna be big.

I love the way you caught motion almost everywhere except the couple at center, who are still and tender.

BTS, that couple looks like George Costanza and his girlfriend!
