50mm summicron

Other business: I traded in the 40mm Nokton Voigtlander lens + n amount of money for a used 50mm Leica f2.0 - which is the lens that I used to have (just shoot me) and always liked so much. Nothing drastically wrong with the 40mm, but it is a little harsh compared to the Leica 50 f/2.0; thankfully the C/V 28mm f1/9 is a great lens.

Also found a replacement takeup spool for the M3 at Tamarkin ($50).

I bought a new 50 summicron about four years ago which I ended up selling when I went into SLR land. I loved that lens. This looks exactly the same. Rigid (made in Germany) with a hood that pulls out. I'm about to develop the test roll I shot with it.

Yeah just shoot me, too.

When I sold my DS M-3, it had a beautiful screw-mount collapsible Summicron 50mm f/2 (with M-adaptor) attached to it :-(

"...Also found a replacement takeup spool for the M3 at Tamarkin ($50)." :-)!

Zorki & FED take up spools are 3 for $10 :-)

Sorry, it just makes me smile

the 50mm 'cron is a beautiful lens, super
sharp and contrasty - probably the best
lens I have owned so far. Unfortunately
50mm is a bit long for my taste... a 35mm 'cron
sits on my camera 99% of the time -
not bad either.

Steve - I should have checked with you first. I did see a bunch of the Zorki & FED takeup spools on eBay - all from the Ukraine and I wasn't sure if they would fit or not.

Markus: When I did have all my M lenses, I had the 35 f1.4 and the 50mm f2 and I mostly used the 50mm - so I'm in pretty good shape now with the 50 and the 28mm. I know that eventually I'll want the 75mm f1.4 but someone will have to buy a lot of pictures before I go for that.

Ah - I should have said: "if I have $3500 that I don't need to live pay rent etc..."

But even that would be a lie: In the old days when I had that kind of currency - I couldn't bring myself to buy that 75mm f1.4 lens (as much as I liked it).

I almost always try to find the cheapest way out - which almost always ends up costing me more money.

Dave - sorry, I was just being a wise-guy about the Zorki/FED spools - I don't think they will work with an M-Leica (*maybe* an older screw-mount Leica.) I didn't mean to get your hopes up.

Hey, come to think of it - you can see for yourself - the spool on your Glorious FED-2 should pull out if you give it a tug - see if it might work :-)
